A Guide to Building Endangered Archives: Nubian Heritage as a Community Archive
The guide was prepared by Hassan Obeid, Mona Gawish, Narmin Farid, Mustafa Abdel-Aal, and Fatima Imam, and edited by Yasmine Hafez and Saker El-Nour.
The archival materials produced by the project will be made publicly available from Autumn 2027 at the following link:

This guide was published as part of the project ” Nubian Legacy: Chronicles of the 1933 Dislocation Archive“, in partnership with the Center for Memory and Knowledge Studies, hosted by CEDEJ, and supported by the British Library through its Endangered Archives Programme.
The guide is divided into two parts. The first, “A Guide to the Restoration, Treatment, and Preservation of Archival Collections”, covers the fundamental principles of document condition assessment, preventive conservation methods, and the handling of records and maps in ways that minimise the risk of damage prior to processing and digitisation. The second part, “A Guide to Digitisation and Descriptive Database Construction”, addresses the technical and methodological stages involved in converting original documents into high-quality digital copies, alongside the creation of structured metadata designed to facilitate retrieval and digital preservation for research purposes.
